Episode 52

The fifth of eleven episodes in which Miriam returns to ramble with me on my mind map. The six topics we randomly generated this time were left- and right-handedness, "cultural self-harm", fractality in nature, MK Ultra, ley lines and Conlon Nancarrow.

We continue entertaining the idea of various types of "group minds" (national, religious, ethnic, etc.), focusing in particular on post-Imperial English, touching on British Israelism, the fascist appropriation of various flags, English cultural self-loathing and the popular mockery of English folk culture before considering the possibility of extending the idea of "self-harm" to a collective (national) unconscious context, thereby (perhaps) making sense of the destruction of sacred landscapes by late 20th century road building programmes.
